There are three types of standard confirmation letters. The letter that indicates that you are enrolled and registered in an academic session is available via all options below; letters indicating that you are potentially eligible to graduate or that you have already graduated are only available via options 2 and 3 below.

1. Online (Free of Charge)

Undergraduate students (not at Osgoode Hall Law School or concurrently registered with the Faculty of Education1), currently enrolled and registered, may print an online standard confirmation letter for the following sessions:

Please note that there are two types of online letters available:

  • Standard - includes verification of full-time or part-time status, comments on instructional hours and gives the start and end dates of the relevant session.
  • Detailed - includes verification of full-time or part-time status, year level, general timeline for degree completion and the start and end dates of the relevant session.

Online standard confirmation letters cannot be modified to include additional or different information.

1 Note: This online service is not available to graduate students, undergraduate students at Osgoode Hall Law School or those who are concurrently registered with the Faculty of Education. These students should complete a Letter and Document Verification Request form (below) and will be not be charged a fee.

2. In Person (Charges Apply)

Standard letters confirming that you are enrolled and registered for the current academic session or that you are potentially eligible to graduate are available on a walk-in/pick-up basis from Registrarial Services in the first floor of the Bennett Centre for Student Services. The fee for a standard confirmation letter when picked up in person is $15 each. All letters are printed on official letterhead; there is an additional $25 fee if your letter requires an official stamp.

3. Letter and Document Verification Request Form (Charges Apply)

If the online verification letter service does not suffice, and you are unable to request the letter in person, you can complete a Letter and Document Verification Request form (below) and either fax it to the Registrar's Office (416-736-5444) or put it in the drop box located in the lobby of the Bennett Centre for Student Services (building is open 24 hours a day). You can request to have the letter mailed to you, or pick it up in person.

Note: Glendon, Environmental Studies and Schulich students must request this letter from their home Faculty.

RESP Verification Letters
Online RESP Verification Letters (VOEs) are now available for the Summer 2013 session.

Before you can obtain a letter to have your RESP funds released, you must be registered in your courses and have paid the $300 registration deposit.

Once you have registered and paid the $300 registration deposit, your registration status can be verified through two options:

1. Online (Free of Charge)

Download a Verification of Enrolment and Registration Letter and return it along with any other required documents to your RESP provider. Do not submit this letter to York University; it must be submitted to the institution (e.g. bank) administering your RESP.

Note: This online service is not available to graduate students, undergraduate students at Osgoode Hall Law School or those who are concurrently registered with the Faculty of Education. These students should complete a Letter and Document Verification Request form (below) and will not be charged a fee.

2. Letter and Document Verification Request Form (Charges Apply)

If you require a more specific verification than what is provided by the online option, complete a Letter and Document Verification Request form (below) and either fax it to the Registrar’s Office (416-736-5444) or put it in the drop box located in the lobby of the Bennett Centre for Student Services (building is open 24 hours a day). There is a $25 fee to have your RESP form verified. Once you have submitted your Letter and Document Verification Request Form, the Registrar’s Office will confirm that you are enrolled and registered and will send the verification directly to your RESP provider.

Once you have your letter (option 1) or have requested your RESP form to be verified (option 2), contact your RESP provider to determine the process for receiving your funds from them. Please ensure you pay the remainder of your course fees by September 10. If you are unable to do so, late payment interest charges will be applied to your student account.

You must be registered in courses for the upcoming session and have paid the $300 registration deposit before your RESP documents can be processed.

If you require a letter that is more detailed than the standard confirmation letter, for example it needs to indicate you are not enrolled, that you dropped your courses or you need a confirmation of a portion of your student account, complete a Letter and Document Verification Request form (below) and either fax it to the Registrar’s Office (416-736-5444) or put it in the drop box located in the lobby of the Bennett Centre for Student Services (building is open 24 hours a day). The fee for a modified confirmation letter is $25 each.

If the standard or modified confirmation letters do not suffice, you can request a special, customized letter. Examples of special letters include:

  • specification/identification of transfer credits received at the point of admission, or
  • specification/identification of courses extraneous to your degree (for QECO or OSSTF), or
  • "eligible to graduate" letter to be released directly to a third party or for a visitor visa for a family member to attend your convocation.

For a special letter, complete a Letter and Document Verification Request form (below) and either fax it to the Registrar’s Office (416-736-5444) or put it in the drop box located in the lobby of the Bennett Centre for Student Services (building is open 24 hours a day). The fee for special letters is $50 each.

If you have a document that requires to be certified/verified with an official York stamp or seal, complete a Letter and Document Verification Request form (below) and either fax it to the Registrar’s Office (416-736-5444) or put it in the drop box located in the lobby of the Bennett Centre for Student Services (building is open 24 hours a day). Make sure you attach the document(s) that needs to be certified/verified. The fee for certification is $25 per document.
